The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Rescue Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Feedback

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming him soon. We are all eager to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.

David

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every match. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as production continues.
